FT. MADISON, IOWA -- UPDATED: July 19 at 4:05 a.m.

The Fort Madison City council is moving ahead with incentives to encourage residents around new bypass interchanges to voluntarily annex into the city.

The council approved a list of five options earlier this week.

When formally announced, residents near the city will have a specific time period to decide whether to voluntarily join the city.

The Fort Madison city council will discuss options to motivate property owners around the Fort Madison bypass interchanges to voluntarily annex into the city.

According to the Fort Madison Daily Democrat, that discussion is expected Tuesday night at the Fort Madison city council meeting.

The council made voluntary annexation a priority during its goal setting session earlier this year.

The City Manager is now submitting incentives options used in other communities for voluntary annexations. Click here to read more in the Fort Madison Daily Democrat.
