DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Most Iowa school districts reported declining enrollment this year.
That's according to new figures from the Iowa Department ofEducation.
The total enrollment in Iowa public schools this year is 480,609. That's a decline of 1,975 students or about 0.4 percent compared to last year.
The department numbers show 66 percent of school districts statewide had falling enrollment this year, as the case has been for about a decade.
Districts with the largest loss of students include Davenport, Ottumwa, Sioux City, Waterloo and Council Bluffs.
Some districts did see growth. Iowa City had the largest increase with 450 more students than last year. Waukee, Ankeny, Southeast Polk and Johnston also had more students join their districts.
