CARTHAGE, ILL. -- Citizens in the Carthage, Ill. are asked to participate in a voluntary water conservation effort.

Richard Sealock, superintendent of the Carthage Water department, said the city's main water supply, Carthage Lake, is low due to the excessive heat.

Residents are asked to refrain from watering lawns, filling swimming pools and washing cars if possible.
