QUINCY, ILL. -- The challenging hills of South Park in Quincy were the location for the Run for the Cross event Friday night in Quincy.

Runners took on the challenge for a worthy cause.

All the money raised at this event goes to support the Back to School Help Fair next weekend in Quincy.

The fair provides school and hygiene supplies, medical and dental exams as well as haircuts for some of Quincy's needy kids.

Race organizer Brenda Turnbaugh says that name of the event can sometimes confuse people, but these members of Quincy's Christian community have only one goal ... to give every kid a great start for the school year.

"If we get the word out, it's the christian community of Quincy, everyone working together to get these kids back to school," She said. "It's the kids in our community that need help and we want them all to go back to school as equals."

This is the 12th year for the Run for the Cross event.

The Back to School Help Fair is next weekend at the First Baptist Church at 8th and Elm in Quincy.
