DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Attorney General Tom Miller has joined the push for Consumer Rights Act in Iowa.
Miller is backing a bill prefiled by Representative Eric Palmer that would let Iowans sue over consumer fraud.
Palmer, an Oskaloosa Democrat says his proposal would allow individuals to invoke the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act, something only state officials can use when they suspect residents have been cheated in business deals.
Iowa is the only state where consumer fraud law doesn't extend to individuals.
Miller says consumers can file a common-law action for fraud, but they have to prove intent, not just deception.
