SPRINGFIELD, ILL. -- Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has banned all media from state prisons.
In his announcement last week ending the tours, Quinn cited security risks as the reason behind the new policy.
Instead the governor encourages people to "trust" his administration.
The President of the Illinois Broadcaster's Association says Quinn's new policy leaves taxpayers footing the $1 billion tab for corrections with no accountability.
Jennifer Fuller, President of the Illinois Broadcaster's Association told a WMBD reporter, "Given the history of corruption in this state, it's really important we have the information we can give to people so they can be more secure in what's happening with their tax dollars and with their elected officials."

Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford said, "By not allowing the media access for tours begs itself is there something out there that might be of concern."
