PHILADELPHIA, MO. -- The city of Philadelphia, Missouri will be installing the town's first emergency siren Tuesday.

Residents should not be alarmed if they hear weather warning sirens between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The new early alert siren in front of the new Philadelphia fire station is three years in the making.  Folks with the Philadelphia Development Group have been raising more than $20 thousand for years to buy one for the community.

Then recently, the Marion County Ambulance Service sold its old ambulance barn property, and donated the proceeds to the city to help pay for the siren.

Development Group member Liz Donath says from here the community hopes to hook into Marion County's new Code Red System. That's an early alert system that sends out emergency messages to phone land lines and cell phones registered to the program.
