Cat with rabies found in Keokuk
HANCOCK COUNTY, IL. -- Concern over a postive case of rabies in Keokuk prompt two clinics to hold special vaccination clinics.
The Hanock Journal Pilot reports that a cat in the Keokuk area was postively indentified as having the disease.
Rabies is not very common in domesticated animals.
In order to get ahead of the potential spread of this disease, the Hancock Veterinary Clinick in Hamilton and the Carthage Veterinary Clinic are holding one day rabbies vaccination clinics.
The Hancock Veterinary Clinic is holding its event on Saturday, August 25th from 8am to 2pm.
The Carthage Clinic is holding its event on September 8th from 8am to 2pm.
The cost is $10 and includes the cost of the examination and rabbies vaccine.
The pet owner will also get a certificate of vaccination and a tag for their pet.
Rabies is a viral infection that causes inflamation of the brain and can be fatal in warm blooded animals.
The disease is also fatal in humans.
