QUINCY, ILL. -- A search firm will help the Quincy School Board find a new superintendent.

The board voted to hire a firm called School Exec Connect.

The organization will cost the district an all-exclusive $10,000 plus advertising costs.

Earlier this week at a special school board meeting, Board President Bill Daniels said some applicants won't apply for a position in fear of their name becoming public before the process is complete.

School Exec Connect guaranteed the board confidentiality.

The board heard from one taxpayer who thinks the district should look for a candidate internally first before hiring a search firm.

"I would prefer to get the best candidate possible and if that's an outside candidate, that's great," said Quincy school board member Scott Stone. "If it's an internal candidate, that's great also. I'll let them all compete together."

The board also heard a presentation on a $76 million balanced budget for the 2012-2013 school year.

It will be on file for public viewing for 30 days.

A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for September 26 at 8 a.m.
