----------

The Hannibal man convicted of murdering his fiance just days before they walked down the aisle will be sentenced Monday.

Earlier this summer, an Audrain county jury found Calvin Duane Pettey guilty of shooting Sandy Fugate in the home they shared back in 2010.

He could get up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

It took an Audrain County jury three hours of deliberations in June to find Calvin Pettey guilty of murdering his fiancee.

Fugate's mother testified to the jury that she discovered her daughter's body in the basement of Fugate's Iowa Street home with several bullet wounds in her head.

According to court documents obtained by KHQA in 2010, Pettey admitted to killing his fiancee and asked others to help him dispose of the gun, ammunition and clothes he was wearing at the time.

Pettey and Fugate had been engaged for about a year at the time of her death.

According to the Hannibal Courier Post, in a probable cause statement in Marion County Circuit Court, a witness told police Pettey told her he killed Sandi and needed her to help get rid of the evidence. The witness also reported Pettey wanted the ammunition thrown in a body of water because they may have his prints.

Fugate had a daughter from a previous marriage and was employed by General Mills in Hannibal. People who knew her say she loved spending time with family and friends.
