QUINCY, ILL. -- A highlight from Monday night's Quincy City Council meeting was the recognition of a group of very special young people.

Brett Wilson, Jamie Doellman, Samantha Ruble and Andrew Genenbacher are all members of the Quincy Fire Department's Explorer program.

In July, the group competed in the National Fire and Emergency Services Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Although the team is small, they came home with 3rd place honors in Hazardous Materials Identification and first place nationally in the Spinal immobilization competition.

The students also presented their advisors with a special award for all their hard work and support.
