Alleged victim in WIU sexual assault recants claim

MACOMB, ILL. -- A woman who said she was sexually assaulted on the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb has recanted her story.

The WIU Office of Public Safety said it closed its investigation into the incident.

WIU campus police investigated the reported that said the assault took place about 1:50 Sunday morning on the Sherman Hall lawn, along Adams Street.

The female student who resides off campus reported to Macomb police that she was walking alone on Adams Street before midnight when she was grabbed by a male unknown to her and sexually assaulted.

Following an initial investigation by police, WIU's Office of Public Safety took over the investigation.
