SPRINGFIELD, ILL. -- You may have money waiting for you and not even know it.

The Illinois State Treasurer's Office says it has another $100 million in unclaimed property, which brings the current total to $1.6 billion.

Treasurer Dan Rutherford is asking Illinois residents to go online and find out if they or their relatives have unclaimed property being held by the state.

Abandoned bank accounts, stocks, items in safe-deposit boxes and other unclaimed property are turned over to the state treasurer when the owners can't immediately be found.

The treasurer's I-Cash program attempts to return property to the rightful owners or their heirs. Last year, it returned more than $100 million worth of property.
