QUINCY, ILL. -- Visitors to Quinsippi Island took a few steps back into the 1800s Saturday.

The fourth annual Frontier Settlement Days took place at the Log Cabin Village. The event allowed spectators to get a glimpse at what Quincy looked like before it became an incorporated town.

Guests were able to see a blacksmith, master spinner, and even a shotgun wedding.

Three of the log cabins - the church, the log corncrib and the smokehouse - were built during the 19th century.

This year's event also celebrated the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

Presentations were held throughout the day on the war's impact on the region.

"It's very important that you maintain your history and your remember it. There's an old saying that, if you don't, you tend to repeat it and that's the whole purpose of the village, to bring back the history of what it was like when the early settlers came to this area," John Gebhardt, the president of Friends of the Log Cabins Association said.
