IOWA (AP) --
They would like to see nex t year's 7th graders get a booster shot before they go to school.

The hope is that it will boost the kid's immunity.

So far in 2012 Iowa has had 1,085 cases of pertusis, or whooping cough.

That's almost five times the nubmer of cases reported last year.

The Iowa Board of Health will decide whether or not to add the middle-school pertusis booster to the vaccinations kids are required to take later this year.
