QUINCY, ILL. -- Tough financial times have become tighter for the Quincy Public School District.
Wednesday night, the Quincy School Board heard official details about how the district is going to receive a half a million dollars less from the State of Illinois than originally planned.
That news came at the beginning of the school year just months after the school district slashed one-million dollars from its budget last spring through a deficit reduction plan.
As a result, principals at all schools have been notified to cut purchases by 20 percent.
"I mean we're getting down where we're watching paper at this point, because paper is our biggest supply item," Finance Committee Chair Stephanie Erwin said. "We're really getting down to the bare basic here."
The board also voted to discontinue pre-retirement compensation increases to staff effective July 1, 2013.
Board members will reconvene to vote on a final budget on September 26 at 8 a.m.
