QUINCY, ILL. -- Parents and children filled Leon Bailey park Thursday night.
Everyone was eager to give their suggestions on how the park district should remodel the aging park.
Children gathered to not only play but help remodel a park that deserves a new makeover.
"We need more play equipment because this stuff is rusty and stuff and it's old. We all agreed we need more play equipment," Ashanti Hill said.
The Park District held an open house to allow the community to choose what equipment would be coming to the park.
The slides and tire swings display the strong roots of the family after whom the park is named.
"Mr. Bailey and I were married for forty-two years when he passed. He had a massive heart attack so all my children lived around here of course some of them moved away. I have two sons that live here. So I love Quincy," Georgia Bailey said.
Leon Bailey was a long-time business man in the community. His wife described him as a family man with a place in his heart for children.
"He was just interested in helping the children of Quincy, giving them a place to go and play," Bailey said.
Daniel remembers playing football when the park was just an open field before it was dedicated to his father.
He hopes to bring his granddaughter to play in the new park.
"It's going to be great. I'm a first time grandfather and my granddaughter will be one in January. I figure she'll be able to run around in this park," Daniel Bailey said.
Quincy Park District plans to spend $20,000 giving the kids a new place to play.
The Park District plans to return to the park with more specific examples after reviewing the research from Thursday.
