PALMYRA, MO. -- Two of the three intersections in Palmyra are back up and running.

MoDOT began improvements to the intersections in July to ease traffic getting on and off the highway.

Main Cross was the first intersection to reopen. This week, MoDOT opened traffic to Ross Street. The improvements included drainage work and widening the median.

Tuesday, work began on Thompson Street to add an acceleration lane southbound. Crews will also widen the intersection and lengthen the turn lanes.

Tentatively, the week of October 15, Thompson Street will be closed for two to three weeks to complete the work, weather permitting.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane on northbound and southbound U.S. 61 with a 45 mph speed limit at the work zone. Flashing arrow boards and orange warning signs will alert motorists of lane closures and upcoming work zones. Crews will be working during daytime work hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and they will be working with area law enforcement to ensure driver and worker safety.

For more information contact MoDOT's Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636). All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map. You can also visit MoDOT online at www.modot.mo.gov/northeast.
