FORT MADISON, IOWA -- The owners of the Siemens plant near Fort Madison want to put a rumor to rest.

The Fort Madison Daily Democrat reports there has been a rumor floating around that the entire plant is closing.

A company spokesperson says that is not true.

The plant will stay open, despite a massive layoff of more than 400 people.

Siemens Corporation announced the plans for layoffs on September 18.

The wind energy equipment manufacturer said layoffs will include 615 workers in Iowa, Kansas and Florida in part because Congress has not renewed a tax credit for wind energy.
