The Northeast Community Action Corporation says a weatherization program they administer is helping homeowners save hundreds of dollars a month on utility bills.
The program offers qualifying homeowners the chance to get a new furnace, weather stripping around windows, storm windows and even new appliances.
The money comes from a federal grant, but there is a waiting list for the program.
"It's just been amazing, I'm not afraid to open up my utility bills anymore. This last summer, the worst my electric bill ever was, was about $125. And I've seen a similar reduction in the gas bill in the winter months. It's just been amazing," participant Ellen Jacklin said.
Over the last two years, the home weatherization program has saved homeowners a total of 450-thousand-dollars.
That's an average of 407 dollars per home.
