QUINCY, ILL. -- John Wood Community College Trustees, meeting in regular session Wednesday, October 17, in Quincy, approved an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with the Quincy Regional Training Facility for use of classrooms and equipment for students pursuing associate in applied science degrees in fire science.

“We feel this agreement demonstrates how we can work together to find solutions that better serve our students and community,” Dr. John Letts, JWCC president said.  “The training provided within our fire science program is head and shoulders above many others because we have access to current equipment at the training facility.  We are proud to partner with the city and feel this agreement is positive for everyone involved.”

The agreement includes $20,000 in advance rental payments and $10,000 for in-kind services from JWCC to assist in funding construction of two classrooms at the Quincy Regional Training Facility's new additional site at 1900 Seminary Road. Classroom instruction previously was held inside Quincy University's North Campus building.

The $20,000 advance payment and $10,000 of in-kind work from the college's physical plant staff will cover 6 1/2 years of the school's normal rental costs associated with student instruction using Quincy Regional Training Facility materials and space. JWCC's construction technology program will also help with framing of the classroom areas.
