QUINCY, ILL. -- Eighteen-year-old Luke Genenbacher of Fowler has entered a guilty plea to charges stemming from a crash last December in Paloma.

Court records show that Genenbacher was charged with aggravated DUI in the case.

After reaching an agreement with the Adams County State's Attorney's office, Genenbacher changed his plea to guilty.

In exchange for that guilty plea, he avoids the chance of getting up to 12 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Instead he will get a felony probation sentence.

Genenbacher will go before Judge William Mays on December 20th to be sentenced.

Illinois State Police investigators said that Luke Genenbacher, who was 17-years-old at the time,  was driving South on County Road 1750 when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 24.

The vehicle operated by Genenbacher collided with the passenger side of a vehicle driven by Brian Shimp.

His wife Lisa was severely injured in the accident.

Court records show that at the time of the crash, Genenbacher's blood alcohol level was at 0.145%.

The legal limit in Illinois is 0.08%.

Lisa Shimp suffered multiple injuries in the accident including fractured ribs, a broken back and a fractured ankle.

Genenbacher is paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

The Shimp family are asking for more than $50,000 in a civil lawsuit  filed against  Luke Genenbacher to pay for injuries suffered in the accident.
