HANNIBAL, MO. -- Here's a KHQA Safe Family crime alert from the Hannibal Police Department.

The Hannibal Police Department would like to inform the community of possible illegitimate door-to-door sales in the Hannibal area.

Throughout the year and especially closer to the holiday season, the city of Hannibal is subject to salesmen going door-to-door. Most are legitimate, but some are less than credible.

Before dealing with any of these salesmen, be sure to check with the Clerk’s Office, to insure they have a valid Itinerant license, which is approved by the Chief of Police and City Hall. The phone number is 573-221-0111.

Unfortunately, an Itinerant license is still not a seal of approval.

The Police Department can only conduct a basic criminal check for active warrants and previous cases in our system.

As always, when dealing with any solicitors, either door-to-door or over the telephone, do not allow any one in your house or give out any personal information.
