Harris Broadcasting said Friday that several employees at its Quincy, Ill. plant were given notification Thursday that their jobs were terminated.

“To my understanding, that's correct,” company spokesman Brian Galante said in an interview Friday.

Harris Corporation, a long-time Quincy employer, made the announcement in May that it intended to sell its broadcast division, including the Quincy manufacturing plant.

The company has 384 employees in Quincy as of May. Galante said that about 12 employees were given notice Thursday that their jobs were eliminated.

The company manufactures radio and television equipment including transmitters, consoles and STL equipment.

Galante said that the company is in discussions with several serious potential buyers. A sale could come as early as the end of the year, he added.
