QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy University will get back 2.8 acres of land from the city and the only thing it must do to get it is to mow the grass.

That's the agreement between the city and QU, approved Tuesday night by the council.

The land is an unused part of the grounds of the Quincy Fire Department training facility on North 18th street.

Director of Administrative Service Gary Sparks says the biology department uses a pond on the land for class study and the school also wants to enhance its soccer field.

In exchange for the land, the school agreed to mow the property around the training center for 10 years.

Despite some objections, a first reading of the ordinance was waived and the council passed the resolution.
