QUINCY, ILL. -- An invasive species is making its way towards the Tri-States.

The Emerald Ash Borer has taken over thousands of ash trees in the upper Midwest.

An arborist gave a presentation on that very subject Monday night in the Quincy council chambers.

Jeff Palmer discussed some steps residents and cities can take to prevent an infestation.

The Chicago and Bloomington/Normal areas are losing many trees to this tiny insect, and it was found in Kansas City just this past year.

"It was on a private property," Arborjet arborist Jeff Palmer said. "When they did some canvassing, they found a very substantial infestation."

The number one way of spreading the invasive species is by transporting firewood.
