If you need to get a copy of your medical records, as it is now at most places, you have to fill out a form and wait a couple of days.

That's no longer the case at Quincy Medical Group as you can get your records at your fingertips.

There's a new online portal called Follow My Health.

With a few strikes on a keyboard and a couple clicks of a mouse, you can have access to your medical records.

"Things like prescriptions, problem lists, upcoming appointments, diagnosis, and information that can help them better manage their healthcare," Quincy Medical Group CEO Aric Sharp said.

You can also see a list of your allergies and even immunizations. But not everything is on here ... yet. You can't see X-rays or other images and you can't make an appointment.

"We feel that having access to this information helps the patient become more informed. When it comes to managing chronic disease, information is critically important for the patient to know what's going on," Sharp said.

Sharp says for example if someone is diabetic, they can get lab results right at their computer ... and the results come quickly.

"When you have a lab test done, the results go into the Follow My Health portal very quickly. It's possible that the patient could get an e-mail saying you have results posted, and the physician hasn't had an opportunity to look," the Executive Director of Clinical Services for Quincy Medical Group Kathy Harman said.

That doesn't mean the doctor won't call you to discuss your results. Kathy Harman says this portal does not take away the importance of a doctor patient relationship. It only takes a few minutes to set up an account. You can even log in though your Google, Yahoo, or Facebook account.

"In terms of security, it's very safe. Patients can have every confidence that their data is secure. In this application, just like our electronic record, there are processes that patient goes through to get a password, to get an account set up," Aric Sharp explained.

You can log in from anywhere in the world that you have internet access, so the information goes with you wherever you go. It's also important to note, that everyone in your family has to have a separate account.

There's no app for Follow Your Health just yet.

The software maker does have an app available, and Quincy Medical Group is looking into it for the future.
