QUINCY, ILL. -- If a picture is worth a thousand words, a picture of world hunger may leave you speechless.
Horizons Social Services of Adams County hopes to open your eyes to the local hunger problem with a special fundraiser.
The organization is having students, and a few local celebrities including KHQA's Tegan Orpet, hand paint empty bowls.
In the spring, Horizons holds a fundraising dinner, and each ticket holder gets to take home an empty bowl as a reminder of all the hunger in the world.
Students at Washington School in Quincy painted bowls Tuesday morning with the help of volunteers from Madison Park Christian Church.
"There hasn't been anybody that I haven't shared this with that didn't want to help. I think when we share the statistics of the poverty that is in Quincy that a lot of people don't know about, they usually are in awe and they cannot believe that there really are hungry people right here in Quincy," volunteer Dana Caley said.
The Horizons fundraising dinner is in March.
Tickets will go on sale in February.
