Winter weather canceled four Cape Air flights Thursday.
QUINCY, ILL. -- Winter weather may have slowed Cape Air's passenger numbers last week, but Quincy Regional Airport officials say the airline remains on track for 10,000 boardings by the end of the year.
"It's going to be real close," Airport Manager Jeff Steinkamp said Sunday. "We lost four flights out out of six due to the snow and bad weather Thursday."
Steinkamp's latest numbers totaled 9,654 passengers as of Friday. That means Cape Air needs 346 more outgoing passengers to receive a one million dollar reward for the city of Quincy. The federal money would be used for airport improvements.
"We'll need six passengers on each flight to stay on track," Steinkamp said.
Each flight can hold up to nine people.
If the city falls short in the passenger numbers, then it will get only $150,000. The city says monthly totals have trended up since Cape Air took over three years ago.
