HANNIBAL, MO. -- January 1st kicks off a new year and that could mean a healthier more active you. The Hannibal YMCA is holding its second annual Passport to Fitness Expo to make that new you a reality.

"It's a chance for anybody in the community to come out and visit the YMCA and see what we have available and what we offer to member," Marlene Rodenbaugh, Hannibal YMCA wellness director, said. "Everybody is so focused on what can I do is 2013 to be a better me."

This expo is more than just about showing off the Y facility.

"It's also a chance to see what kind of resources that are available in your community, not just here at the YMCA," Rodenbaugh said. "What's available in the community to start off 2013 to be healthy."

The expo will have community booths featuring local organizations and businesses, each offering a different opportunity for you to become healthier in the new year.

"I think a lot of people want to find out how to get active, how to take recreation on your own or with friends but it can be intimidating on how to get started," Rodenbaugh said. "So if you're interested in any of these hobbies or activities it gives you a chance to make a connection with someone who is actually doing it and learn how you can get started and make some friendships alone the way."

After all the Y prides itself in being more than just a gym.

"We care about our community we care about our members," Rodenbaugh said. "When you walk through those doors your part of a family. We're really trying to embrace our members and trying to make everything available to them to be successful."

The Passport to Fitness will be held on January 5th at the Hannibal YMCA from 9 a.m. until noon.

The YMCA is also offering a deal to new members.

If they bring in 25 non perishable food items in the month of January their $75 membership fee will be waived.
