BURLINGTON, IOWA -- A trial date has been scheduled for two Burlington Iowa men charged with involuntary manslaughter and boating while intoxicated in the fatal collision of two boats on the Mississippi River near Burlington last spring.

The Hawk Eye newspaper reports that Douglas Metcalf and Joseph Schier Jr. are scheduled to begin trial on May 13th.

Metcalf and Schier both pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say the two were ferrying people who were partying on an island sandbar around 2 a.m. May 19th when the boats collided.

The driver of one boat had dropped off passengers on a dock and was returning to an island sandbar when he hit the other boat carrying 11 people.

Several people were thrown into the water; four died.
