HANNIBAL, MO. -- America's hometown saw tourism that broke records throughout 2012. The Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau is gearing up for another year of visitors from around the country.
Tourism is one of the economic factors that drives the city of Hannibal. One thing that brings many people from around the country in is its connection to Mark Twain.
Gail Bryant is the director of the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau. She said that some of the months in 2012 reached record levels in tourism around the city even with some unavoidable obstacles.
This upcoming year, Bryant said there are a number of new attractions. These attractions are expected to bring in even high numbers than last year. One of the bigger attractions this year in Hannibal is the 150th anniversary of Samuel Clemens's famous pen name, Mark Twain.
Steve Terry runs the Riverboat Excursion every year with his wife, Sandy. He said this year their numbers exceeded the previous years numbers, even after a few internal mishaps. The Riverboat Excursion opens up again in mid March. Terry has high expectations for the year to come.
