CLARK COUNTY, MO. -- A Canton man is charged in an ongoing investigation of a fire and stabbing that happened near Wayland, Mo. Wednesday.

Caleb E. Goldie, 34, of RR1, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was taken into custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest at 5:08 p.m. Thursday.

The Sheriff's Office received a call Wednesday at approximately 8:20 p.m. reporting a fire at Goldies Sawmill just south of Wayland. Sheriff Paul Gaudette said initial evidence shows that the fire was not intentionally set.

No other details are available until we receive more information from the State Fire Marshals Office, a release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., while on scene at the fire, the fire department requested an ambulance, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office. At that time, there was a stabbing and two people were taken to the hospital.

“There was an individual stuck with a knife,” Sheriff Gaudette said.

The owner of the sawmill is currently out of the country and could not be reached for comment.
