BELLEVILLE, ILL. (AP) -- An astronaut with Metro East ties will be heading back into space this fall.
Forty-three-year-old Belleville native Sandra Magnus is scheduled to lift off September 18 to spend a few weeks on the International Space Station.
Magnus will replace Gregory Chamitoff on the space station.
She'll be a flight engineer and NASA science officer who will conduct experiments and complete research.
She's also expecting to be the test subject of some experiments.
The space station will be nearly complete when Magnus gets there.
She spent 10 days, 19 hours and 58 minutes in space on the shuttle Atlantis in 2002.
