HANNIBAL, MO. -- A Hannibal man who led police on a brief foot pursuit Tuesday was arrested inside the local YMCA.

Richard Kind, 22, has not been charged in the incident and is being held at the Marion County Jail on an outstanding warrant.

The pursuit began shortly after 1 p.m. when police received a report that a man was walking toward Hannibal Middle School with what appeared to be a handgun.

An officer tried to make contact with the man later identified as Kind. He became verbally abusive to the officer and ran away, according to a press release from the Hannibal Police Department.

The officer chased Kind through the Catholic Cemetery and through the Park United Methodist Church parking lot. The officer lost sight of Kind.

Officers received a call that a man matching Kind's description entered an unsecured door in the rear of the YMCA near Brookside Drive.

Police did not recover a gun.

Both Hannibal High School and Junior high were on lock down for approximately an hour.
