QUINCY, ILL. -- A group of local farmers wants you to buy local when you are out grocery shopping.

The Western Illinois Sustainable Agriculture Society, or WISAS, held its annual Locally Grown, Locally Good Expo Saturday.

Farmers from around the area set up tables where they sold much of their home grown products.

The goal of the event was to teach people about sustainable options when dealing with food.

Along with the farmers, there was also a chef demonstrating recipes with local foods.

"The present food system that we have in this country has a lot of problems. One of them being that we all depend on food that's grown an average of 1500 miles from our dinner plate, and we use a lot of diesel fuel and electricity to get it here and to keep it cold until it gets here and things like that," WISAS president Edwin Waters said.
