KEOKUK, IOWA -- Keokuk firefighters continue to investigate what caused a house fire Sunday afternoon.

Crews responded to the fire at #4 Melody Court, just before 2 p.m.

A homeowner had tried to put the fire out himself before firefighters arrived. Everyone inside the home got out okay, though the family did lose a cat and pet rabbits.

Firefighters think a wood stove in basement may have started the fire. It caused severe damage to the home.
