DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- It's back to work for Iowa lawmakers Tuesday. They had Monday off for the Martin Luther King Junior holiday.
The agenda includes two big issues, property taxes and illegal immigration.
Also on the table is a measure assuring veterans that their job, or a comparable job, will be waiting for them when they return from active duty. There's a federal law to that end, but lawmakers say a state law would stiffen enforcement.
The Legislature will also get started on Governor Chet Culver's proposed $6.4 billion budget.
House Speaker Pat Murphy says he's planning a special evening session for House Democrats where budget experts will review the spending plan.
