HANNIBAL, MO. (AP) -- For three decades, Henry Sweets has been helping visitors to Hannibal gain a better understanding of Mark Twain.
On Thursday, Sweets will be honored for 30 years as curator of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum. Like Twain, Sweets grew up in the historic northeast Missouri river town.
Now 58, Sweets says he never finds his job boring. New information about the great author and humorist continues to come out.
Sweets taught high school briefly before taking the job at the museum in January 1978. Under his leadership, Twain's boyhood home has been restored closer to its original appearance and a new museum opened in 1995. Also, the Becky Thatcher House was acquired in 2000 and the Huck Finn home was restored last year.
