DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- The majority of telephone service in Iowa is now wireless as the number of traditional wired connections decline.
A report released by the Iowa Utilities Board on Friday shows the number of wireless connections increased by 23 percent from 2005 to 2007, while wired connections fell nearly 6 percent.
The report says the total number of wireless connections in Iowa was more than 1.9 million, compared to nearly 1.5 million wired connections.
It said the numbers were consistent with national trends.
The decline is attributed to customers eliminating phone lines for dial-up Internet service and an increase in the number of households that only use a wireless telephone.
