GRANITE CITY, ILL. (AP) -- Investigators are trying to pinpoint what sparked a Granite City house fire that injured three children and a neighbor who entered the burning home to help them.

Fire Chief Tim Connolly says the children and the neighbor were taken to hospitals.

Their conditions aren't immediately known.

Connolly says the state fire marshals office has been called in to help determine what caused the blaze, which was reported just after midnight on Wednesday.

Connolly says he isn't sure where the children's parents were when the fire broke out.
