WATERLOO, IOWA (AP) -- A Waterloo man accused of turning off the heat to his family's home in the middle of winter has been charged with child endangerment.

Police were called last Sunday to Sefik Miskic's home, which he shares with his girlfriend and their 2-year-old son.

The temperature inside was 55 degrees. Outside, it was 0 degrees with a wind chill of 27 below.

According to court records, Miskic paid his utility bills, but he had the power turned off two days earlier because he was upset with his girlfriend.

Police say this deprived his child of necessary utilities and harmed the child's health.
