DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa House leaders have canceled Thursday's debate on proposal to ban smoking in most public places because of a filing error.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines says the debate will be rescheduled next week.
He says staff failed to file an amendment before Wednesday's deadline, and under House rules, the bill is not eligible for debate Thursday.
The measure calls for banning smoking from Iowa restaurants and bars but allows it in casinos and small private clubs.
The amendment would ease a 50-foot buffer where smoking would be banned outside public establishments to 10 feet.
