DEKALB, ILL. (AP) -- The 10,000-seat Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University was filled to capacity Sunday night with people remembering the five students killed during a Valentine's Day shooting on campus.

Early in the hour-long memorial service, a photo of each of the slain students was projected on screens around the arena as their names were read aloud.

A choir sang the gospel hymn, "Take My Hand, Precious Lord."

Elizabeth Darrow is a 21-year-old education major from Zion. She had tears pouring down her cheeks as she made her way out of the arena with two friends.

Darrow says attending the memorial brought the shootings home for her.

NIU graduate Steve Kazmierczak committed suicide after opening fire in a crowded NIU lecture hall.
