QUINCY, ILL. -- Illinois is strengthening penalties for handicap parking violations.

Misusing a disability parking placard or license plate could result in the loss of your license for up to six months on the first offense. A second offense would result in loss of your license for a year along with a thousand dollar fine.

If you use a placard issued to a deceased person, it is considered a class A felony. That carries a minimum penalty of losing your license for a year and a $2,500 fine.

Illinois will see 150 new laws in 2013.

Some of which include a ban on the possession of shark fins to prohibitions on employers asking job applicants for social-media passwords.

You'll also see pay 2 dollars more for Illinois license plates to help fund overdue state-park repairs.
