MARION COUNTY, MO. -- Local children learned the lessons of proper hunting techniques. The Golden Triangle chapter of Quail Forever invited the Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Illinois to participate in a quail and pheasant hunt.

Big Brothers Big Sisters hasn't seen an event quite like this one.

"This is the first time that I have ever known Big Brothers Big Sisters to do something like this. I am so thankful to Quail Forever organization to allow our kids to have this kind of exposure and this kind of activity. And to get experience in something like this that is so important to our area," said program director at Big Brothers Big Sisters Toni Hastings.

Ryan Viehmeyer is the President of the Golden Triangle chapter. He said this hunt goes toward the programs ultimate goal... To have no child left indoors.

"What we try to do is get the kids off the couch and get them out in the world and the great outdoors and experience what a lot of us and our parents were raised with. Being outside doing this stuff getting good exercise and physical activity," said Viehmeyer.

Mike Varrone is a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He said it was a great way to bond with his little brother.

"He loves it. He was a little shy at first, but as soon as he got that firearm and started hitting those pigeons, he was ready to go," explained Varrone.

The Golden Triangle chapter holds one youth event each month. Quail Forever's goal is to help educate people about the conservation of quail, pheasants, and other wildlife.
