QUINCY, ILL. -- The air at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy was thick with nostalgia Saturday.

As an early Valentine's Day present to those who have served our country, the American Red Cross hosted a USO Show. USO Shows are entertainment for active duty military members during times of war.

Nearly one hundred veterans and their family members filled Smith Hall to take a walk down memory lane, while listening to a number of performances.

Many of the veterans were impressed with how similar it was to the USO shows they attended while actively serving.

"They love it. It's all love songs and I can see them swaying and I can tell they are enjoying it so that is the main thing," Pam Schaffer, with the Adams County Chapter of the Red Cross said.

"It takes me back to when I was in the navy because our home board for the ship was in newport Rhode Island and they used to have shows like this, USO shows like this at the YMCA in Newport," Gene Foltz, a Korean War Navy veteran said.

This is the fourth year the American Red Cross in Quincy has held this event. It will have another show for the veterans for Flag Day in June.
