(AP) -- Low water levels are still causing worries for communities along the Mississippi River.

A new updated forecast shows no signs of improvement.

According to the outlook by the National Weather Service the river at St. Louis is expected to fall to about 9 feet deep by December 30.

That's one day later than originally predicted.

As of Wednesday the the depth of the water in St. Louis was about 12 feet.

The Coast Guard is expected to put further restrictions on barge traffic in the river drops down to that 9 foot level.

Meanwhile U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri says that crews from the Army Corps of Engineers could be out in the river destroying rock pinnacles that slow down or prevent barge traffic south of St. Louis sometime next week.
