KINDERHOOK, ILL. -- The village of Kinderhook was in a "helpless" state Sunday overnight as residents continued to cope without any water.

Bill Bainter, the village operator for its water system, says crews began working on a centrally located water main break Sunday evening. But a lack of the right tools needed to fix it has left crews at a standstill until new equipment arrives Monday morning. Bainter expects the village will gain back its water by noon Monday, but nothing is certain.

Crews began working again Monday morning and just after noon water service was restored.

Meanwhile, classes have been canceled for the Western School District Monday. All evening events will remain as scheduled, according to Superintendent Carol Frericks. Frericks expects school to be back in session Tuesday morning.

The village will remain under a boil order until Tuesday evening at the earliest, pending the results of a water treatment lab's results, confirming the water is safe to consume.
