QUINCY, ILL. -- Hundreds of people passed through the Quincy Mall Saturday to enjoy the sights and smells an annual cake fest. The 3rd annual Cake-A-Palooza aimed to raise $6,000 this year.
The YWCA organized the event. Its goal is to raise money for its programs and raise awareness for homelessness in our community.
Cake-A-Palooza included an Advanced Cake Contest, and an Extreme Cake Baking contest. The theme this year was "Live Happily Ever After" and included a children's section where they could meet fairy tale princesses.
Team Sweet Expressions, which was a mother/daughter duo, won the extreme cake contest. Kristin Craven won the Advanced cake contest with her Glass Slipper Cinderella Cake.
Cakes from the Extreme Cake Contest were sold for $250 a cake and the cakes from the Advanced Cake Contest sold for $50 a cake. Money made on cakes went to the YWCA.
